DIY kids paste/glue recipe
This is an old school recipe I had to whip out this past weekend, when the family decided to tackle the cool new DIY books Blanca [Jaime’s mom] sent the kids. What a fun project! We pulled everything out and realized we needed glue!? I probably haven’t bought glue since I was in middle school. Definitely knew we didn’t have any lying around.
Ingredients
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup warm water
8 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vinegar
Directions
Mix the flour into the water and stir with a fork until smooth. Then stir in the sugar and vinegar.
Pour into a small sauce pot and warm over stovetop on low, stirring the entire time. The mixture will start to thicken the second it starts to get warm. You can thicken it a minute or two to get a consistency exactly like regular glue… or go all the way like I do and thicken a couple more minutes to make paste. The formula works perfect either way. I prefer paste with my 3 year old kids because it doesn’t spill or drip.
Then just pack it away into any container you like. Use it whenever you’re ready, and when it cools, toss a cap on it and store it away for use the next time. And the best part, if your kids start putting it in their mouth on accident like ours do every time, it doesn’t matter. They can eat the whole darn recipe and it’s completely safe.
