{review} The Pea in Peanut Butter

I received the cutest book the other day, "The Pea in Peanut Butter." They have two versions available: a standard book edition and a coloring book edition. We have the coloring book edition for our twin boys. The book is all about this little girl, Kailee, who is practically obsessed with peanut butter. The entire story put a smile on my face because I too am a peanut butter lover.

It's completely adorable and crazy lively. Late at night, all of the food in the panty comes to life. I don't want to ruin the book for anyone, but I have to say, it is a must have. The entire point of the book is to teach young kids about all the varieties of healthy foods. Especially if you have a picky eater on your hands, I would give this book a try.

The best part, the coloring. All of the high color pictures throughout the book can be custom colored by your child in the back of the book. I think it's really cool to give kids a book they are actually allowed to draw in. It makes it a little naughty and a lot of fun.

Both of my boys went crazy for the book. They really enjoyed when I read it to them and were excitedly flipping from one bright, visually stimulating picture page to the next. Even though the book is recommended for ages 3-6, I think it's amazing for any age. All of us gung-ho moms know how important reading to children daily and providing daily visual stimulation is.

Fun and Important Facts
Reading to your child for 20 minutes a day sets the foundation for your child to read early and read well. It's highly suggested that moms read out loud to their children as early as birth. Just from birth to age 5, 20 minutes a day provides 600 hours of essential pre-literacy skills.

Visual stimulation is also crucial in the development of the brains visual center. Studies show that light pastels really do nothing for newborns. Surrounding your baby with dark contrasting colors and contrasts of black and white, register the most powerful on a young child's retina, sending the most powerful visual signals to your child's visual center.

This book has it all - black and white, powerful dark contrasting colors against white and a wonderful story that can be read to children of any age again and again.
